Maui Island is also called the Valley Island due to the two prominent extinct volcanoes connected by vast pineapple fields. Mount Haleakala, "House of the Sun" EL.10,023' is a wonderful experience for sunsets/sunrises, but very cold at times . Maui was the whaling port of the 17-1800's and has some very fine beaches and many historical sites to see such as Lahaina Harbor in the south-west coastal area. Hana to the to the east is locked in time, (the Hana road takes about 2 1/2 hours)
