“We thank you for this elegant, restful
place and the healing energy of Hana. It was a great place to
celebrate our birthdays. Thank you for being friendly, non-intrusive
hosts. As you know, we’ve already reserved this beautiful place
for next year and look forward to our return.”

“Thank you for sharing your home
and hospitality with us. Your warmth certainly made Hana heavenly!
We really feel fortunate for having stumbled upon this place in
paradise and we’ve already discussed our return. Your home and
setting is beautiful and Hamoa beach was the tropical paradise
we had hoped to see.”
Janet & Chris Knudsen Sunnyvale, CA

so much for your hospitality. You made our first visit to Hawaii
very special. We also enjoyed meeting many of your friends…getting

in the future.”
Caroline & Magness Glansen Stockholm, Sweden
“Thanks so much for your warm hospitality.
We felt more like houseguests than renters. This is by far the
best place we’ve stayed in Hana. We can’t wait to come back again
and again to see you, your friends, and of course, beautiful Hamoa
beach.”

Book Review
Review of “Hana Oceanfront Cottages”
in travel book “Best Places to Stay in Hawaii”
sixth addition (2000) by author Kim Grant.
James Michener, the renowned
author of the epic historical novel Hawaii, called Hamoa Beach
“the most perfect beach in the world.” He wasn’t kidding.
Less than two miles beyond the center
of town, and across the street from the gorgeous crescent of white
sand known as Hamoa Beach, these two units are going to be popular.
I say “going to” because they were constructed in late 1999 and
the world really didn’t know about them at press time. As soon
as that changes, you may have trouble making reservations.
Hosts Sandi and Dan Simoni live on
the second floor of the main house and rent the first floor and
adjacent cottage. Both properties sit on an unobstructed corner
lot. While there is traffic heading to the beach during the day,
(when you are undoubtedly at the beach, too, or out exploring),
it dies down just before dusk, when your are arriving back at
your home away from home.
The main house, built to resemble
an old plantation house with a double –hung front porch, enjoys
a separate bedroom and living/dining/kitchen area. Furnishings
are tasteful and tropical. The layout is also spacious (about
1,000 square feet of living space) and breezy, with polished bamboo
flooring in the bedroom and cool white tile in the living room/kitchen.
There’s plenty of room to spread out; a sleeper sofa can accommodate
two extra people. The fully equipped modern kitchen features a
dining bar with stools. But you’ll probably be eating on the long
lanai, where you can take in bay views across the street.
The romantic cottage is a gem, the
kind of place where you could hole up for seven rainy days and
not go stir crazy. (Just in case, though, you can rent videos
at the nearby general store.) Decorated in an old Hawaiian style,
with fan palms in lieu of traditional ceiling fan paddle, for
instance, the cottage boasts a little covered oceanfront lanai
and bay views from the bed. The small bedroom is dominated by
a bamboo sleigh bed, giving the room a warm, natural feel. White,
white towels punctuate the new bathroom. The small but complete
kitchen is topnotch with a cappuccino maker and Jenn-Air stove.
No corners were cut here. The cozy living room, open to the kitchen,
features oversize wicker armchairs and couches upholstered with
classic 1940s reproduction patterns. Picture windows beckon you
outside to Hamoa Beach.
Guests staying for a week have access
to laundry facilities. There are beach towels for all, regardless
of the length of stay. Outdoor showers were being added at press
time and will be luxuriously private once the landscaping matures.
